Mayor Of Hailey Outlines The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly…

While presenting the “State of the City” at the Hailey Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Membership Meeting, Hailey’s Mayor, Fritz Hammerle, went over what he calls…

“You have the good, the bad, and the ugly. So we started out the talk about some of the challenges that the city is facing, particularly with infrastructure, those kinds of things. The water calls that we’re currently facing from the south valley. Those are some of the challenges we’re facing,” said Hammerle.

Mayor Hammerle said that one of the challenges the city faces is it does not have enough revenue to meet all of the operational costs. For example, just one snow storm costs the city $16,000 to plow.

More of the ugly?

In addition to budgetary concerns and a drought, the list includes the possibility of big box stores coming to town and nuclear waste talks with Idaho’s attorney general.

And how about the good?

“Particularly within last year, Hailey’s become an incredibly vibrant place. We have some super outstanding businesses that just opened up. So we’re excited about those,” said Hammerle.

More of the good includes current projects to help make downtown Hailey even more vibrant.

The city is working with a BSU PhD candidate on possibly developing town square.

Hailey was also awarded a “Livable Main Street Grant.”

In addition to presenting their own update, the Hailey Chamber of Commerce gave out the very first “Chamber Super Star Award.”

“That went to Delbert McMurto, who is a volunteer at our office. He’s a gentleman who comes in every Monday afternoon, he does whatever we need for him to do,” said Debra Hall, president of the Hailey Chamber of Commerce.
